While not endemic, Kāhu, have a long association with Aotearoa/New Zealand. They are widespread and I have photographed them as far south as Auckland Island in the subantarctics.

In Māori culture were considered noble and chiefly, unlike the Kārearea/New Zealand Falcon which was considered bold and treacherous
