During our recent trip to the beach, Edin and I came across this Little Penguin while chasing landscape photos at the end of the day. Equipped with lenses usually too short for bird photography we were lucky to still achieve some decent images as the little bird was very approachable. It seemed to have only one eye and was a little thin but happily continued preening itself as we approached so seemed undistressed by our proximity. Having only my 24-120 f4 on my D800, I managed a reasonable “penguin on a rock” photo but wanted to try and capture the bird’s smallness and vulnerability contrasted against the looming rocks and waves. Here are the 2 images from either end of the zoom range.
See Edin’s blog post for her thoughts and images from this encounter.
