Sunday 15 September saw an event at the Arataki Visitors Centre in the Waitakeres which was part of the Going West Writers Festival. Sarah Ell chaired a panel comprising the authors of The Meaning of Trees and The Brilliance of Birds.

Robert Vennell’s gorgeous book, The Meaning of Trees was released in April this year and built on his blog which documents fascinating facts about New Zealand native plants. It was great to see him speak about his passion and work. Edin worked with Robert documenting some of his research and his book contains many of Edin’s photographs. It was encouraging to see this young trio of authors collaborating to create such interesting new work.

The forum was also an exciting opportunity for the public to see and purchase The Brilliance of Birds prior to the official release date of 17 September. Edin and Skye have been working on this for well over a year so it was great to actually see the final result of their efforts in the flesh.

After the talk there was the opportunity to get books signed and speak directly with the authors. All in all a great morning. The Brilliance of Birds and The Meaning of Trees can be ordered online via these links.
