Photographically it has been a hectic weekend with the New Zealand Aria and Rotorua Musical Theatre’s production of Grease coinciding. I had done the headshots and programme photos for Grease earlier in October but it is always the most fun to photograph the performances once the show in the theatre with lighting plotted.

For the technical crew this production was a challenge as they only gained access to the theatre a few days before opening. I managed to photograph a dress rehearsal but there were no lighting effects for the show. This made my job easy as no exposure adjustments were needed but the photos don’t represent the show.

We attended opening night and it was great to finally see the complete show with lights. I was keen to photograph the complete version so after completing the first edit of my Aria photos and delivering files for the news media I went in to photograph the Grease matinee.

It was a great performance and lovely to be able to work with the light finally on the stage.
