When our COVID-19 restrictions eased from level 4 down to 3, the relative freedom allowed a trip locally to photograph birds. One of our rewarding spots is the Rotorua lakefront at Sulphur Point and Sulphur Bay. After a few weeks restricted to my backyard bird hide it was great to get out and watch the ducks, geese, shags, swallows and dabchicks.

The dabchicks were especially impressive with far more than we usually see in this spot. At one stage there was a flotilla of 14 bobbing in front of me. Conditions were bright but diffused so great opportunities for some low angle images.
