After last week’s post on Three Steps to Nice Light, I thought I would share another image made in these circumstances. Slightly different location along the lake edge but same scenario. This location photo was made by Angela with her iPhone SE 2020 and contains the challenge of finding the photographer. Hopefully the duck pair are more easily visible on the smooth water.
The ducks were photographed a little after this image was taken as the sun had left the water at that stage. This next image is a crop which makes my location clear.
I was wearing my old tussock pattern camouflage jacket which works well in this habitat. I don’t believe camouflage is terribly important as long as you are wearing drab colours, moving slowly and concealing your silhouette against the vegetation. In this instance I was able to approach low from the boardwalk and sneak down next to a clump of grass getting my lens low to the water. The Nikkor Z 800 f6.3 VR S is a joy in this situation. The light weight and reach making it so much more comfortable to use compared to my previous 500mm f4 with a 1.4x teleconverter.
