I have recently been exploring video tutorials as an efficient way of disseminating information. This began with creating a resource for a photography competition but I have now started recording a series of Quick Start guides for Adobe Lightroom. There are some excellent and comprehensive tutorials available, but I wanted to make some concise, bite-sized episodes that cover my workflow.
The aim is not to explore every option in Lightroom. I have done that and drilled down to what works for me so aim to take you along for the ride as I go through my Lightroom process. The first step is importing and is what I cover in this first video.
I aim to do episodes on file management, backing up and then some basic processing workflow. Lightroom has grown from largely being a image catalog and raw processor to being a very capable image processor allowing masked adjustments. I am doing more and more of my processing in Lightroom before heading into Photoshop for some final touches. In reality, you can now do almost everything in Lightroom but to maintain maximal control and quality Photoshop and some plugins still play an important role for me.
Making these video tutorials is definitely a work in progress with a steep learning curve in screen, video and sound recording followed by video editing. These are all things I have little to no experience in and am still working with a few software options before deciding finally on a workflow. For this tutorial I recorded the screen and video with Screenflick and edited it in Da Vinci Resolve. Screenflick is simple and easy but Resolve is even a bit more daunting than Lightroom for a stills photographer!
