Anzac Day 2015 – Centenary of the Gallipoli landing

Anzac Day is commemorated on 25 April as this was the day that the Anzacs (Australian and News Zealand Army Corps) first landed in Gallipoli during the First World War. While not a militarily successful campaign, Gallipoli is considered to have played a significant part in the development of New Zealand, Australian and Turkish national identity. Anzac Day 2015 marks the Centenary of the landing and as a result has been commemorated with a number of special events in addition to the usual dawn services on the day. One of the local events was the consecration of a Garden of Remembrance  at the Cenotaph in the Government Gardens, Rotorua recognising those from the district that had served and lost their lives.
