This week we’re back to our Turangi trip to photograph Blue Ducks on the Tongariro River. While in the area we decided to visit the Tokaanu wharf which is a great spot of the southern end of Lake Taupo. It is a short drive from Turangi and well worth the excursion. There are opportunities on the regular lake birds (Black Swan, Scaup, gulls and ducks) but also the possibility of Fernbirds and Dabchicks.
We had no luck on Fernbirds but had a nice opportunity on Scaup and a New Zealand Pigeon/Kereru in a Kowhaib tree, including a chance to get an image on a white background for my Birds on White series.
All photos with Nikon D500 and 500mm f4 VR lens
